BOTOX ®

How does it work?

A few drops of BOTOX® are injected into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When BOTOX® is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin soften and often disappear. This takes up to 14 days to take full effect.

Does it hurt?

When BOTOX ® is injected there is a minor sting for a few seconds. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort.

Where can BOTOX ® be injected?

The most common areas are:

• the frown lines between the eyebrows

• the horizontal forehead lines

• the crows feet or smile lines at the outer corner of the eyes.

Melanie is a highly experienced practitioner, and also uses BOTOX ® in other areas of the face and neck as an alternative to surgery to improve appearance. More details on these procedures, and prices can be given on consultation.

How long does a BOTOX ® treatment last?

BOTOX ® usually lasts two to four months. After several treatments the effects may begin to last longer.

How safe is BOTOX ®?

BOTOX ® has been used safely and successfully for many years to treat muscular twitches and facial paralysis. Wrinkle treatment uses only a tiny amount of BOTOX ®  with no major side effects. A minor possible side effect could be slight bruising. Other possible side effects will be explained at the consultation.

Dermal Fillers

How does it work?

The product is injected into the area of the skin a few millimetres under the site of the wrinkle. This produces a lifting effect, smoothing out the wrinkle at the surface of the skin. The effect is immediate.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort, but the area is numbed prior to treatment to minimise this.

How long does it last?

Between six and nine months, depending on the individual, as the body naturally breaks down and absorbs the product.

What is it made of?

All Dermal Fillers that Melanie uses are biodegradable, non-animal, hyaluronic acid – a substance found naturally in the body.

Where is it used?

The main areas are:

• the crease from the nose to the corner of the mouth (naso-labial lines)

• the crease from the corner of the mouth to the side of the chin (peri-oral lines)

• lip contouring and enhancement

• the fine lines running vertically above the top lip (smokers lines)

Melanie is a highly experienced practitioner and uses Dermal Fillers in other areas of the face, as an alternative to surgery to improve appearance. She also uses Dermal Fillers to correct scarring and improve the effect of facial injury, deformity or disease. Details of more advanced procedures and prices can be given on consultation.

Are Dermal Fillers safe?

Biodegradable non-animal hyaluronic acid has been used for many years and has an excellent safety profile. There is a small risk, as with any injectable procedure, of slight bruising or swelling. There is a slight risk of infection at the site of the injection, although this is very rare as the strictest sterile procedures are used during treatment.

Sculptra

Sculptra™ is a non-invasive injectable treatment.  It smooths out lines and wrinkles, restoring facial volume and contours just where it’s needed, giving you gradual, natural looking results which can last up to two years.

As part of the ageing process, our skin becomes thinner, losing its natural elasticity and suppleness.  Fat layers in the skins epidermis, which help to fill out the face, eventually break down, causing skin to sag and wrinkle. Sculptra’s™ main ingredient Poly-L-Lactic acid works from deep within the skins layers, stimulating the body’s own production of collagen to sculpt a smoother more youthful appearance.

Sculptra ™ facial enhancement therapy, offers a safe, discreet approach to achieving a rejuvenated appearance.  Once collagen production has been stimulated, Sculptra’s™ natural-looking results should become noticeable after approximately six weeks and can last for as long as two years. This subtle enhancement allows you to maintain your beauty secrets as there is no dramatic, instant change but rather a gradual enhancement as your appearance is plumped up slowly from within, continuing to make your skin look fresher and younger.

Sculptra ™ is suitable for anyone who would like to restore their youthful appearance and works particularly well in the cheeks or around the chin.  The main ingredient Poly-L-Lactic acid has been used in medical devices for over twenty years and is suitable for all skin types.  It has been shown to be safe and effective without the possible reactions associated with some animal derived products.

Depending on the area to be treated, Sculptra™ has an average 45 minute treatment time, usually requiring two to four treatments 6 weeks apart depending on the individual.  After about a year, a top up can be administered for maintenance.

Melanie has used Sculptra for many years and is an advanced level practitioner.

Cryotherapy Treatment

How does Cryo pen work?

It works by precisely freezing targeted cells causing them to be destroyed. It can be used on various skin lesions such as warts, moles, skin tags and age spots.

How long does it take?

Treatment normally takes several seconds per lesion. Each lesion may have to be treated twice e.g, freeze, wait 30 seconds, freeze again.

Does it hurt?

Generally there is no discomfort for the first few seconds but there may then be some pain for the next few seconds. This is normal and should not cause concern.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

Often one session will be effective but in some cases a second session will be required 3 or 4 weeks later. Very rarely a third or forth session will be required.

What can I expect from treatment?

The lesion may feel like a small burn for a few minutes to several hours after the treatment. It will become dark, may blister and then appear as a scab. This will eventually shed or drop off at about 7 to 28 days depending on the size of the lesion, leaving a pink area. The normal healing process will eventually blend the skin colour to the surrounding skin. IT MUST BE NOTED THAT, PARTICULARLY WITH DARKER SKINS AN AREA OF SLIGHT HYPOPIGMENTATION MAY REMAIN. (skin looks lighter in treated area)

When healing is complete there may be a slight dip in the skin where the lesion used to be but this is very rare.

Mole and Skin Tag Removal

How does it work?

A tiny needle is inserted into the base of the mole/skin tag. The needle generates a current and cuts off the blood supply to the mole/skin tag. This causes the mole to drop off immediately in some cases, or to scab over and drop off over a period of 10 days or so depending on the person’s healing ability.

Does it hurt?

There is a slight stinging sensation during the procedure. Larger moles which require multiple needle insertions can be numbed prior to treatment.

Is it safe?

The procedure is quick, safe, inexpensive and gives a good cosmetic result. There is a small risk of infection at the site treated but this is very rare as the strictest sterile procedures are carried out during treatment.

Chemical Peels

Melanie uses Medical Grade Facial Peels which involve many different types and strengths. In order to give the best advice and price it is essential to have a consultation.

Micro-Dermabrasion (mechanical peel)

What is it?

Micro-dermabrasion is used to improve the quality of the skin. It usually involves four or five treatments two or three weeks apart, and then four to six weekly maintenance treatments.

How does it work?

Tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin and simultaneously vacuumed away, taking with them dead skin cells and impurities.

What is it used for?

It is used to improve:

• fine facial lines

• blocked pores

• dull skin
